A POLICE officer was trapped in his van after an accident with a car.

The incident, at Carrington Lane's junction with Banky Lane, caused massive tailbacks.

Motorists had to queue to get on to the Carrington Spur, the main road on to the M60.

The officer was taken to hospital suffering an arm injury. The driver of the car, a Mondeo, was also taken to hospital.
