MOURNERS are gathering for the funeral of a prisons campaigner who was found dead near her daughter's grave in Malpas, Cheshire.

The service in memory of Pauline Campbell, who was arrested more than a dozen times while highlighting the incidence of suicide in women's jails, will take place at Saint Alkmund's Church in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Representatives of the Howard League for Penal Reform and the pressure group Inquest will be among those paying their respects at the 60-year-old's funeral.

In a statement issued by Mrs Campbell's family following the discovery of her body in Malpas two weeks ago, her brother and stepsister said she had never recovered from the loss of her 18-year-old daughter, Sarah.

The teenager died of a drug overdose while serving a sentence at Styal Prison in January 2003.
