A GRANDMOTHER who is dying of cancer has lost an appeal for a drug which could prolong her life - but will take her case to the High Court.
Jean Murphy, 62, has kidney cancer and doctors say the only treatment which could help her is controversial drug Sutent, which is routinely available in Cheshire and Liverpool but rarely prescribed on the NHS in Greater Manchester.
Thousands of people signed a petition asking Salford Primary Care Trust to change their minds.
Jean said: "Myself, my husband and my family and friends are devastated by the PCT's decision to turn me down again. We hoped they would listen to the people of Salford but they have not.
"It is enough to suffer from this disease, to feel yourself getting weaker and more tired, without having to fight the system too - I should not have to face this just because I live in Salford."
A Salford PCT spokeswoman said: "Mrs Murphy has been advised of the decision and a formal letter setting out the reasons behind it will be sent as soon as possible."
