RANGERS should be banned from European football next year, an MP says.
Graham Stringer, MP for Manchester Blackley, said the behaviour of the rioters was `unacceptable'.
He said: "Uefa will have to look at whether Rangers are allowed in next year's European competition. These scenes are not acceptable, and neither is the damage to individuals and property.
"Unfortunately, the only way of doing something is punishing the club."
Gordon Brown claimed the behaviour of some Rangers fans had been a disgrace.
He said he intended to review public drinking laws after the ugly clashes.
He said: "It was a minority, but it was completely unacceptable for that to happen in a public place, where the Manchester authorities had made available the facilities for people to enjoy the match.
"We do have laws that enable us to control drinking in public places where there is a risk of disorder, and we will have to look at these laws for the future."
UEFA has ordered an inquiry into the rioting.
Should Rangers be banned from playing football in Europe? Have your say.

Yes they should be banned, this should never be allowed to happen to another City again, sport has no place for these scum.
If this was an English team, there would be national and world wide outrage, and rightly so, however, we have moved on, it seems that Scotland hasn't

So why not a ban for United fans too, for the trouble they caused in Rome last year? (Two to three hundred roaming the streets smashing up cars etc before the match and then "charging" at the Roma fans after Roma took the lead!!)
The vast vast majority of Rangers fans were a credit to their city. And the fans in the stadium were fantastic too - even staying behind to applause the winners, unlike we English fans usually do.
Maybe it's Manchester City Council who should be banned from holding such future events?? Yes they eventually decided to cater for 80,000 ticketless fans - but were actually warned that up to 150,000 might come. The city centre was thus "dangerously" overcrowded and the "too small" fanzones overwhelmed. And also weren't the fanzones set up too late in the day - not allowing for any pre testing the day before? (Especially that "unserviceable" screen which had apparently been "dodgy" since they first turned in on??)

I am sick and tired of hearing songs about the pope and 'being up to our knees in fenian blood'.
I am sick and tired of seeing the large number of Rangers fans giving nazi salutes at foreign grounds in Europe.
I know I am not the only one. Kick them out of European competition before some other poor town is left to pick up the pieces.
I don't condone violence (what do you think I am? A Rangers fan????!!!), but I think any Rangers fans living in Manchester should tread very, very carefully over the coming weeks, for their own safety.

control. Pop Festivals with beer are more problematic. What is required now is a full review of what and why Wednesday's problems occurred and how they can be prevented in future.
May be will will join with the MP who represents the area affected by encouraging moves to do this. Incidentally a note fro G Brown..drinking alcohol in a public place is already unlawful in Manchester City Centre.

Lets hope the Man U and Chelsea fans behave in Moscow and England (but I bet it's more organised over there).
If we are banned, well thanks very much to those so called fans (seen a couple of chelsea fans in the crowd...why were they there)

Thankfully the guy's injuries were not life-threatening.
Could you imagine if it was United fans who acted like this, we'd never hear the end of it. These animals are disgrace to themselves, their amateur-league club and scotland. Coming from Northern Ireland, I was embarrassed to hear there were fans singing secterian songs, and wearing king billy t-shirts. Get over it Rangers fans, what has the pope or king billy got to do with a football match.
Throw Rangers out along with the mess they left behind in Manchester.
Well done Zenit!!!

Lets hope that the Man U and Chelsea fans behave themselves, and not let England and Britain down. I live in Cheshire and to be honest, I never come into the city on a match day now as the last time I came in there were already 'so called' Man U fans already looking for trouble, this was at 14:00, game started at 17:00ish.

But Stringer may be piping up as a gesture, the same as that ill-informed MSP yesterday and even our own PM who said he would "look at public drinking laws" in the wake of the riots.
We've already got public drinking laws, Gordon, they just weren't enforced!

Lets get the people involved in the riot jailed rather than try and get Rangers banned for events beyond there control.
19 games in europe and the final was the only time anyone was arrested.

If Rangers are going to be banned from Europe for this, what about the trouble caused by England fans at the World cup in 2006. You can't have one rule for one and one rule for another. EVERY club / nation needs to be treated the same. This will lead to calls for England to be banned from World Cup 2010. Are you OK with that?????
Clare (16/05/2008 at 14:54)
I always avoid going into any city now (especially the games with a late kick off) when a home match is on and includes scotland and england.
I am embarrased to be a Rangers fan and Scottish right now and these thugs should be named and shamed. Some ways I am glad I live in Cheshire (lived in England 7 years), I really love Manchester as city and I can't believe these people have wrecked it.
I am not a Man U fan, however, I wish your Club and Chelsea the best of luck.
I do think that you guys should be able to watch the game on big screens, at the end of the day it's your own city, what they should've done in the first instance was to put these screens up outside of the city and control it as if it was a concert,i.e ticket the event and no alcohol allowed except which is sold in the park.
