MANCHESTER will be playing host to the great and good when the final kicks off.

Dmitri Medvedev, the new president of Russia, is an avid Zenit fan who is hoping to make the match tonight.

A number of Scottish MPs are known to have tickets, and Scottish first minister Alex Salmond has pledged to `cheer from the stands'.

Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe - a keen Manchester United fan - will also be at the City of Manchester Stadium. UEFA chiefs, including president Michel Platini, will be at the game.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent a message of good luck to Rangers, but has refused to comment on whether he had a ticket for the match. Meanwhile shift workers at an insurance company with offices in Manchester and Glasgow have agreed a unique `time swap' - so they can all follow their football teams in Europe.

Esure workers in Manchester will be covering the shifts of their Scottish colleagues tonight to allow them to watch the game.

And the Glasgow staff will return the favour next week so the Manchester workers can watch United play Chelsea in the Champions' League final in Moscow.
