GREATER Manchester Police are to meet Rangers supporters in the run-up to the Uefa Cup clash taking place in the city.
The officer in charge of policing Wednesday's match will visit Ibrox to talk to fans who are travelling to Manchester for the final against Zenit St Petersburg.
Chief Supt Gerry Donnellan said he wanted to discuss arrangements for the game and give supporters the chance to raise any concerns.
Manchester City Council's assistant chief executive Vicky Rosin will accompany him on the trip to Rangers' home stadium.
Mr Donnellan said: "I have already had several meetings with representatives from Rangers and my colleagues in Strathclyde Police, but I wanted to meet some of those supporters who will be making the trip to Manchester.
"I want to explain exactly what is happening in terms of the policing operation, what they can expect from my officers and what we expect from them.
"It will also give them the opportunity to raise any concerns and for me to stress that the whole point of the policing operation is to make the day as enjoyable as possible for everyone involved."
More than 100,000 Rangers fans are expected to flood the city next week.
But the City of Manchester Stadium holds 44,000 and Rangers fans are getting an allocation of 13,000 tickets.
Those who were not lucky enough to get a ticket will be able to watch the game on big screens in the city centre.

A suggestion would be to bus them to Heaton Park until the game is over.

i hope the Rangers fan don't drop anything on our precious streets.
The POLICE will come down hard on you.
they will always uphold the law. regardless if you are a single mild mannered law abiding middle aged man
or 100,000 singing scots eating kebabs.
they treat all citizens the same.
honest.

The stadium holds 48k (probably reduced to 44k for 'security' reasons). So if there are 26k (officially) partisan fans, who makes up the remaining 18k? neutrals? yeah right...

no ticket then they can stay at home in glasgow.
the police and karney have not thought to ask us poor commuters using piccadilly bus station on the day what we think have they!!!

That has to be the most stupid suggestion I've read on this board - and there have been some crackers - since Adam was a boy.
'Turn people back at borders...' so you don't get home in time for Coronation Street.
I wouldn't mind, but you probably come from some tiny hamlet in 'Nowheres-ville' and commute into this, the big city.
Would you like to buy some 'magic beans'?
