Mayor steps into line at centre

THE Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans, tried a spot of line dancing during a trip to  a Wythenshawe community hub.

Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, on Portway, offers a range of leisure facilities, including all-weather sports pitches, a dance studio, a cyber cafe and a sports hall.

While there, Cllr Evans met young people using the centre, including pupils from St Anthony's RC Primary School,  trying his hand at bowling and adding some finishing touches to the new community garden with a spot of fence painting.

He said: "I am thrilled to see such an impressive building being used by the whole community in this way. Everybody I have met is getting so much benefit from this facility and having such a great time as well."

Cllr Evans also met members of a disability group and  young volunteers who told him about their recent team building trip to South Africa. The new garden includes a a picnic area and activities including giant boules and chess. It will also be used for barbecues in the summer.

Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre opened in 2006 and is managed by Willow Park Housing Trust. Run by volunteers, it is used by around 1,000 visitors each week.
