A MAN suffered several stab wounds after being confronted in his bedroom by a knife-wielding burglar.

The 35-year-old man suffered a severe cut to his right index finger and wounds to his thigh, stomach and back.

He was attacked after being awoken by his 58-year-old mother's screams when she was confronted downstairs by three men, armed with a knife and hammer and hoods and scarves covering their faces, at about 8.10pm on Saturday.

While one man attacked her son in the property on Clay Lane, Burtonwood, Warrington, another man searched the house.

They escaped in a blue Rover 75, part registration V838, which was driven by a fourth man.

Police said the injured man was treated in hospital and later discharged. His mother was uninjured but left badly shaken.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "This was a particularly nasty attack and a harrowing ordeal for the victims. We are very keen to trace the offenders."
