Wigan pensioner car jacked

THIEVES in Wigan threatened a pensioner before stealing her £30,000 car.

A 65-year-old woman had just parked her silver Mercedes Benz, registration BJ53 HZX, at the Asda car park on Edge Green Lane, Golborne, at around 12.45pm on Sunday, April 20, when a black Honda Civic, registration MT56 RFF pulled up.

A man, described as white, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothing got out of the car and threatened the woman with a wrench.

The victim handed over her keys and the man fled in the car towards Golborne.

The woman was not injured during the incident but was left extremely shaken.

Detective Constable John O’Donnell of the Wigan Strategic Crime Unit said: “This woman was going about her daily routine when she was confronted by a foul-mouthed, violent and aggressive man, who intimidated and terrified her. Thankfully she complied with his demands and was not hurt, however she has been left extremely distressed.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or that may know the current whereabouts of either vehicle to contact police.”

You three are idiots! That poor woman and her husband have probably worked all their lives to afford that car for some yob to steal. I'm sure you're comments would be different if the pensioner was your mother/grandmother!

Just another entry in the long litany of car thefts only marked as different by the age of the victim and the value of the car. Has anyone thought that she might actually have worked hard for the car ? Older people tend to do that you know.

Could it be that the pensioner has worked hard and saved for the car just to get some slob to steal it.i would like to bet that the slob who stole it has never had a job in his life...benefit scrounger...

alvin lwh how dare you, FIESTA INDEED use your bus pass and go to Sainsburys better class of parking space.

On a serious note this poor lady whatever her vehicle she should be safe parking anywhere, yobs, bet they wouldnt have tackled a 6ft lad with muscles.

Alvin - My parents drive a Mercedes - but then my father worked from the age of 14 - 65yrs and my mother from 14 - 60, albeit with a 5 year gap when she had children. Neither of them have ever claimed state benefit, and neither of them are entitled to anything other than the state pension now that they are retired. Oh, and have been married (probably not always happily) for 54 years. Why shouldn't they have decent things that they've worked bloody hard for?

I can't believe these comments - this incident will probably effect her for the rest of her life, just like and crime that such low-lifes do... regerdless of the cost of her car!! You must all be v. jealous people!

Would this story have got the coverage it did if it had been a ford fiesta, I think not. Why did they have to mention the price of the car? And yes it must have been very traumatic for this women, but then again so is shopping in Golborne (sorry I just cant help it)
