A CHESTER rugby player has died nearly three weeks after falling from a roof.

Builder Aled Evans, 29, was working on a farm shed roof when he plunged 25ft to the ground.

He was taken to hospital in Bangor with a fractured skull on April 9 before he was transferred to the Walton Centre in Liverpool where his condition was described as critical.

Mr Evans, of Rhydymain, Dolgellau, died on Sunday.

He was due to represent his team, Chester Rugby Union Club, as a flanker in the final of the EDF Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham three days after the accident.

His team-mates dedicated their 21-18 victory over Birkenhead to Mr Evans.

The North Wales Coroner has been informed and a joint investigation is being carried out by police and the Health and Safety Executive.
