OVER £5,000 worth of jewellery and clothes have been stolen during a burglary.
Thieves broke into a house on Glendone Crescent in Ashton-uner-Lyne through the patio doors on Monday morning.
The thieves smashed the alarm box and ransacked the house stealing a large quantity of Indian 22 carat gold jewellery and a large number of brand new saris, still in their wrapping.
The saris are valued at £300 each and carry the brand name Diya, and other designer labels, and are a variety of colours.
Police have asked anyone who saw anything unusual in the area that morning, or who knows anything about the theft, to contact them.
Police Constable Paula Ricci, based at Ashton Police Station, said: "The family are clearly very upset that their home and their privacy was invaded and that valuable personal belongings were stolen.
"I would appeal to anyone who is offered these items to contact us as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
