A DRIVER who disguised his car with stickers and changed its number plate to try to avoid a speeding fine was jailed for 80 days.
Paul Hendley, 39, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court.
He was the owner of a white Rover which was recorded doing 37mph in a 30mph zone in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. But when Hendley, of Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, received a notice of the intended prosecution, he asked for and was sent the photographic evidence of the offence.
He told police it was not his vehicle in the picture and sent a photograph showing his car had a number plate of a different design and boasted a GB sticker, Union flag and chequer sticker, as well as a `Dad's taxi' sign in the windscreen.
When he was interviewed Hendley denied altering the car's appearance or renewing its number plate.
But police discovered he had the number plate made after the offence and bought the stickers and sign at the same time.
Hendley was arrested and admitted changing the appearance of his vehicle. Pc Keith Heritage of the Safer Roads Partnership said: "It is not uncommon for motorists to try to avoid responsibility for a speeding ticket but this is an example of the depths some people will go to, and we hope it will serve as a warning to others."
Hendley also received three penalty points and a £120 fine for speeding offence.

Name change by deed poll, get a dodgy Bolivian passport, and a touch of plastic surgery.
Worked a treat for that summons I got for litter on the pavement...
