Snow has been predicted in Scotland and parts of north eastern and eastern England, with even London expected to see some.
The bad Easter weather is being blamed on the fact the holiday falls at its earliest in nearly 100 years.
Records showed April 1-3 1983 was the snowiest Easter, when Scotland, the Midlands and Kent received up to 4in of snow.
Over the past 50 years, snow had fallen `quite regularly', even in lowland areas. Years of Easter snowfall included 1958, 1965, 1970, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1994 and 1998, the Met Office said.
