A MOTHER has been fined £240 - for parking outside her house.
Yumiko Keeble lives at Lawnside Mews, a gated West Didsbury development, with her husband Jeremy, 46, and baby William.
She parks her Ford Fiesta in an allocated space 20 yards from their front door.
But then Mrs Keeble, 34, returned from a shopping trip to learn a warden from a firm employed by the management company had been inspecting the car.
Mrs Keeble said the warden, from Vehicle Control Services Limited, stopped short of writing out a ticket after her husband pointed out they had parked in their allocated space and showed him a permit in the car window.
But now the couple have received a letter which says they owe £240 for two separate parking infringements.
Mrs Keeble said: "When I contacted the firm, they said that unless we paid, they would take us to court and be fined £1,000. They were very aggressive. I explained what the warden said to my husband and they accused him of lying.
"My husband eventually rang them and paid. It's ridiculous that you should be fined for parking in your own space."
Nick Hill, of Vehicle Control Services Ltd, said the company had operated a parking enforcement scheme since 2003, using signs that warn permits must be displayed. He added: "In one case, the ticket was not on display. In the most recent case, all I can suggest is that the permit wasn't clearly displayed.
"We haven't bullied anybody.
"If one of the directors of the management company writes to us on Mrs Keeble's behalf, we will look at all the factors and take a view on the situation."

If it weren't for them there would be no point in having companies like this.
Wheel clampers were introduced around Castlefield for this very reason and they are a pain but essential when you have limited parking, ie no visiting spaces.
We have a problem with commuters and they have bad attitudes. They bring more crime into the area leaving their sat navs on display and they reckon they'd rather they get their windows smashed once a month than pay a daily parking rate....
Hence to say we have since applied for restricted parking in all surrounding streets...they can still park here if they are willing to pay the daily fines!!!
So anyone who parks near the renault garage....mark my words!

It is NOT a fine - it is an invoice. And an unenforceable one at that!
And Excel parking have lost a case in Court this week.
Please visit the forums at www.pepipoo.com for some very useful advice.
And tell all of your friends about this scam.

While they may call it a penalty, they are wrong, as penalties are not allowed under contract law. Maybe the victim should take her case to Trading Standards?
And MEN, you should know better than to call it a fine. Get out and do some research, and then you can tell your readers the correct story.

I think that the point we are both trying in vain to get over is that it is not a FINE.
From todays MEN:
"Big Brother clocks car park cheats
Neal Keeling

A `BIG BROTHER' operation is being used to deter car park cheats at a supermarket who could face a £70 fine."
Now, if these highly paid journo's can get it wrong, what chance the great British public? If you wrote: I walked into a paper shop and took the local paper or I walked into the paoper shop and stole the local paper - people know that they are two seperate things. With Penalty Charges and Fines they seem to think they are the same.
