ALE-lovers have been flocking to Wigan for the town's beer festival.

Although more famous for the consumption of pies, it's pints that have been taking centre stage there since Thursday.

To celebrate the event's 21st anniversary, organisers summoned 21 brews from across the world for enthusiasts to sample.

Countries whose tipples are on display include Namibia, Peru and Indonesia.

And Wigan's own local breweries have not been forgotten.

Patsy Slevin, who featured in the Manchester Evening News last week, has launched a `special' for the festival.

She took up home brewing after organising a brewery tour for her husband.

Folk and acoustic bands were expected to play throughout today before time is called on the event, at the Robin Park Sports Centre, later tonight.
