A MAN was left with severe facial injuries after a burglar attacked him with a cricket bat in his own home.

The 59-year-old awoke to find the thug standing in his bedroom. The intruder then beat him about the head with the bat.

The man, who has not been named, managed to stagger from his home in Kingfisher Close, to a police station.

He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery, but remains in a `poorly' condition.

Det Chief Insp Jeff Arnold said: "This appears to be a violent and completely motiveless attack. I am appealing to anyone that may have heard a disturbance, or who has seen a man walking around with a cricket bat, to come forward."

was the police station open or did he have to "use the yellow phone outside and wait"

They arent police stations...just police break rooms

I'd also pity the man if he'd have happened to have a cricket bat by his own bed. Then he would have been guilty of violent offences. Well, I've got one and something else, and I couldn't care less what the Police and courts would say.

I agree PW, always a good idea to have several implements of self defence under your bed or nearby, though I still think it's unfair that as a lone female parent I would probably get away with it if I had to use them for self defence, while male/lone parents that I know would most likely be prosecuted.
