A TEACHER jailed and sacked for firing an airgun in a row with youths has been told she can return to work in classrooms.
Linda Walker, 50, broke down in tears at a make-or-break disciplinary hearing.
Mrs Walker, of Holly House Drive, Urmston, faced having her professional registration withdrawn - banning her from teaching.
Instead she was given a reprimand lasting for two years, which she must disclose to any employer.
After the hearing, she said: "I am thrilled to bits. Absolutely delighted."
She said she now wanted to teach adults and write her memoirs. She said: "I hope I can finally put this behind me. They can't do anything more to me now, that's the last of it.
"I feel like this is the end of a chapter, but I can't forget about what's happened and move on until I have got my book out there. That's my way of setting the record straight.
"I feared my career was finished because the convictions were so serious. I feel ashamed of my actions and I have still got the convictions. I feel glad they considered the mitigating factors - that I was under a lot of pressure from crime and vandalism against my family and I was ill with the anxiety this caused, particularly as my children were increasingly the target."
Nadine Bristow, chair of the General Teaching Council committee, said: "The reprimand is appropriate because Mrs Walker has shown insight and remorse into her behaviour - she said she is ashamed of her conduct."
She said she `appeared to have learnt her lesson'.
Mrs Walker wept as she admitted unacceptable professional conduct at the Birmingham hearing and described the frightening torment the gang inflicted on her family, including nuisance calls and vandalism.
She told the hearing: "It was obvious in the end that it was aimed at my children and I was frightened at what was going to happen to them. I did not know where they would be prepared to stop."
Asking the committee not to ban her from teaching, she said: "I have got remorse and I am totally ashamed of what I did.
"I have already paid a heavy price, having been in three prisons, suffered public humiliation, lost my job and my livelihood."
A jury in Manchester heard the mum-of-three fired a gun near a teenager's feet. She was jailed for six months. The appeal court quashed the jail sentence, replacing it with a conditional discharge.
At the time of the incident, Mrs Walker taught children with behavioural problems at New Park High School in Eccles, Salford.

These youths think they are a law onto themselves and don’t care the trouble and nuisance they cause, because of this she is made to apologise in a public manner when the thugs that drove her to this keep quite probably sniggering as they read the article, no apology from them (not thing to expect).
She is lucky in one respect that by confronting these youths she lived and could of quite easily lost her life, as we all know people have confronted youths and lost their life.
I hope Mrs Walker that you will be able to get your life back on track and do the one thing you know teach, I also hope that the authorities who make, carry and administer the law in this country start to try and afford ordinary people the protection we deserve.

Pray that you are never placed in the position of having to defend your family because the police are reluctant? To do so.
This woman was persecuted then prosecuted for no other reason than she was afraid.
Pathetic.

JB & LOOKINGFORLOGIC, I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU CAN MAKE COMPARISONS BETWEEN SOME GUN TOTING, DRUG DEALING PLASTIC GANGSTER AND THIS WOMEN.
THIS WOMEN WAS DRIVEN TO HER ACTIONS, THE ONLY PERSONAL GAIN TO HER WAS THAT SHE WANTED HER TORMENTERS TO STOP THE CONTINUING TORMENT SHE WAS RECIEVING.
THE POLICE DID NOT HELP, THEY RARELY EVER DO IN CASES LIKE THIS, WHAT IS THIER ADVICE, KEEP A DIARY OF EVENTS, AND WE WILL LOOK AT GETTING AS ASBO SERVED.
TO LATE WHEN YOU HAVE HAD YOUR HEAD KICKED IN !!!!!!.
ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO CONDEM THIS WOMEN, FOR QUITE RIGHTLY SO STANDING UP TO THE FEROL YOUTHS WHICH ROAM AND PLIGHT THIS COUNTRY NEED TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES AND GET SOME BACK BONE.
I SAY WELL DONE LINDA.
YOU SERVED TIME, IN MY EYES FOR THE CRIME OF STANDING UP FOR YOURSELF.
I HAVE A WOULD DO AGAIN FACED WITH A SITUATION LIKE YOURS.

In essence she fired at innocent people?
(although I hear the children had previous convictions, but this isnt an excuse to shoot them).
I remember reading that in the guardian.

The problem is that both used a gun. Both can argue they did it for protection, that the police didnt protect them so they were driven to it.
Im not saying its right or wrong, thats just the situation.

Just pointing out that if somebody commits a crime against a young person they will not have their CRB clearance passed to work with children in the future, had she been convicted for a crime that wasn't against a young person or child she might still gain enhanced CRB clearance. As both myself & city have commented, the woman was clearly driven to the crime by the lack of support she received, i don't think anybody on here is disputing that. But the fact remains that she fired at a group of kids.

If the law did their job in the first place then this would probably never had happened. I think in the future we may be reading more cases like this as the law in it’s present form is not protecting us, unfortunately more people will be seriously injured, maimed or even killed through the laws not being tough enough or police not able to do their job. I personally would have no qualms about Mrs Walker teaching my kids,
let me ask this question would you let your kids be pally with the yobs that drove Mrs Walker to what she did, because I haven’t heard one protest on here about the feral youths who took her to the edge.

No, the 'children' she fired at were the ones who had been harassing Linda and her children for months.
They damaged her property and car and threatened her children. She had reported issues to the Police before but nothing was done...surprise surprise.
I'm not surprised she snapped. Unfortunately I have seen a family driven to despair by threats and violence. It's hard to tell what you would do in Linda's situation.
I'm glad this is all over for her and she can now move on.
