POLICE have made a fresh appeal to the public to help catch a masked gunman who shot two teenagers in a Manchester betting shop.
A week after the incident inside William Hill on Mauldeth Road West, Fallowfield, it emerged the 18-year-old victim, shot in the stomach and torso, has been moved out of intensive care and remains stable.
But the younger victim, 16, who was hit in the chest, shoulder and leg, is still fighting for his life.
The masked gunman fired five shots inside the betting shop.
The incident is being linked to another shooting nearby four days earlier.
Det Insp Janet Hudson said: "It is a wonder they survived. However both were left seriously ill as a result of this callous attack.
"We are now looking into the likelihood that the incident was linked to reports of shots being fired days earlier, however we are still not ruling anything out. We also believe this was a targeted attack and I am determined to find whoever is responsible.
"We cannot speculate on a motive, but I want to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to get to the bottom of this incident.
"Gun crime will not be tolerated on the streets of Greater Manchester, but we need the public's help to end it and apprehend this dangerous offender.
"Please come forward and speak to police if you have any information at all. I want to reiterate that anyone with any information can give it to officers anonymously and with their identities protected."
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 0161 856 6153, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
