Police said the trio who were all masked and carrying hammers, struck as security men were delivering cash to the HSBC branch shortly before 5pm.
They threatened the security staff and forced them to hand over the money before driving off in a get away car.
There were no customers in the bank at the time, and a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said it was not believed that anyone was seriously injured.
