A TALENTED youngster from Altrincham is looking forward to appearing at Manchester’s Library Theatre in its new production of Waiting for Godot.
Daniel Shaw is only 13, but he’s already an old hand when it comes to theatre.
The Bowdon schoolboy has already acted in several productions and appeared alongside Brian Connolly in the Palace Theatre’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In Waiting for Godot he will play The Boy on alternate nights – he is sharing the role with another young actor, Lewis Potts.
The play, by Samuel Beckett, is considered one of the most important and influential in the English language.
Written as a statement on the human condition, it is a challenging and often surreal production, but Daniel says he is enjoying it nonetheless.
He said: "It is really weird, but it’s really good as well – I love it. Everyone in the cast really nice, which is good as there are only five of us.
"It has been a very different experience from doing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but it has been great."
Daniel, who has been acting since he was seven, hopes to make a career out of it once he has finished his education.
"I want to be in the West End," he said. "I do like TV, but I just love stage acting. I do still get a bit nervous before the first performance, but then I start to get into the routine of it and settle down a bit more."
Daniel claimed his school, Cheadle Hulme High in Stockport, has been supportive of his role. He said: "The school has been really good and has let me have time off."
Joining Daniel on stage will be leading British actors David Fielder and George Costigan as the two main characters Vladimir and Estragon, Russell Dixon as Pozzo and Coronation Street’s David Neilson as Lucky.
Waiting for Godot runs from Friday, February 1 to Saturday, March 8. Tickets cost £6 to £18 – to book ring the box office on 0161 236 7110 or visit www.librarytheatre.com.
