TWO men posing as officials from the water board stole cash from a 92-year-old man.
Police are appealing for information after the burglary, which happened at a house on Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, about 2.30pm on Tuesday.
The victim answered the door and was confronted by the two men who said they were there to repair a problem with his taps.
He agreed and the two men came inside.
While distracted, one of the offenders rifled through the house and stole cash.
The burglars are both described as white. One of them was about 5ft 7in tall, with dark hair and dark clothing and is believed to be about 23-years-old. The second man was described as about 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build, balding and wearing painter's overalls. He was said to be about 40-years-old.
Police Constable Geoff Crompton, Field Intelligence Officer for Pemberton, said: "This was a despicable crime on a vulnerable elderly member of the public. They have no scruples and will happily deprive elderly people of their savings.
"Members of the public are reminded that access should not be allowed to people unless they have confirmed who they are with their identity card and if they are in any doubt refuse them access and contact police."
"It is not just the potential victims we need to appeal to but to the whole community. It's important that you look out for each other and listen to the safety messages we give out. You are our eyes and ears, and we need your help."
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police on 0161 856 7181 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
