MANCHESTER judge Alan Berg is not on his own when it comes to taking a dim view of daytime telly's Jeremy Kyle Show.
According to a new poll, it is the worst daytime TV programme of all time. Judge Berg condemned the ITV1 show in September, when he dealt with the case of David Staniforth.
Staniforth, 45, admitted assault after butting his ex-lodger - who had been having an affair with his wife - in front of the show's studio audience at Manchester's Granada studios.
After hearing that Staniforth, from Chesterfield, had caved in after repeatedly refusing to go on the show, the district judge called it a form of `human bear-baiting'. He said the aim of the show was to give a `depressing display of dysfunctional people, whose lives are in turmoil, often in some perceived or actual dispute with each other, for the purposes of titillating bored members of the public who have nothing better to do than watch trash TV'.
He then banned the show from TVs in waiting rooms at Manchester magistrates' court.
Now the poll of 3,000 people conducted by
alljoinon.com - a social networking site for those at home during the day - has echoed his judgement and put it at the top of a list of the worst daytime programmes.
It was followed in second place by the Daily Politics Show and in third place by Channel Five's Trisha Goddard. Fourth and fifth spots were filled by Loose Women and the Anthony Cotton Show.
In another poll, conducted by men's magazine Arena last week, the show's presenter was voted one of Britain's anti-icons, least deserving of his place in the spotlight.
Kyle came fifth in the table of anti-icons behind Amy Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil; graffiti artist Banksy; England and Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard and hit singer Mika.
What do you think? Have your say.

Anyone with half a brain will know that this show takes advantage of people with low IQ to put themselves up to be lampooned in front of people with only a slightly higher IQ than them!
The Sun is the UK's best selling paper, that says a lot about our country really.
Depressing really.

The public wants real entertainers.
Soaps have deteriorated mainly because producers have injected so-called realism, which is another way of saying conflict, unhappiness, bed-hopping, fighting, abuse, and not a single character living a truly happy life.
If we want reality we only have to look out the window. The modern-day television producers, with their cold attitude ,claim that variety is dead. Not so. It`s only lying unconscious because they don`t want to give the public what they want, they want to give what they decide the public will have. There are excellent comedians and other antertainers who are having to work small venues because they have been excluded by these "bright young things" who call themselves producers and schedulers.
You only have to think of the repeated squashing of programme credits, talking over the beginning and end of films and a total disregard for complaints about this to realize that television makers do not have any regard for their viewers.
An example; The great Ken Dodd is now 80 but still pleases most people every time he appears. You could have a much better evening in a workingmens club nowadays than you will get watching television.
The worst thing about it is that most young people do not realize they are getting a poor deal because they have had this depressing diet of "reality" theust at them all their lives by the t.v.programme makers.

If they don't have any self control then they shouldn't apply to be a guest on the show.

I also think the other poster who said it is reflective of the general standard of TV has a point. I never watch soaps, they are either rubbish and/or sensationalised trash which has to become more and more ridiculous to keep its target audience of the Uncouth ( Kierkegaard's description, not mine ) interested
If only quality educational programming was permitted the general level of intelligence of the populace would gradually increase as they would watch it as there was nothing else
However, another one of my conspiracy theories, feels that the political/business establishment who control the country want the herd to be ill educated as if they had more understanding of what was happening they would kick off about it.
Therefore they feed them the modern equivalent of bread and circuses, trash TV, inane celebrity magazines etc to keep them in blissful ignorance

I am not saying the JK Show is responsible but having been in the audience much against my will and just for my daughters sake, all I can say is it's awful, vile, heartbreaking and distressing for all concerned. She does not have a low IQ but she genuinely felt that he could help after contacting him, her line of thinking being that he could offer some miracle and support where others in her eyes have failed.
Not realising that nobody can help her until she learns to help herself.

This story confirms that they are.
Its a another example of a society where respect and common decency are almost extinct.
