A TOWERING 15-storey development could be latest piece in Oldham's regeneration jigsaw.
Plans for the imposing building, which includes penthouses, apartments and retail space, have been given the thumbs up by the town's council.
It has been earmarked to replace Riley's snooker hall on King Street in the town centre.
Coun Dave Hibbert said the plans `would enhance the role of Oldham town centre as a focus for both businesses and a growing residential community'.
The scheme is expected to boost proposals for the mass regeneration of the town's west end.
Craig Halliwell, from Hillstone Developments, who submitted the plans, said: "We're doing a lot of work in the town centre but for us this is one of the most important projects.
"It's close to the Oldham University development and, because of where it will stand, it will be seen by many as they come into town.
"I think it will have a big impact which is what everyone wants."
