Jen's helping hands

A RESEARCHER from Manchester who lived and worked with Ugandan villagers has launched a fund to build them a school.

Jen O'Brien, a geography expert at Manchester University, travelled to Africa to research healthcare in the developing world.

But she also rolled up her sleeves to help out at a local hospital - mopping floors, caring for patients and even helping deliver babies.

Jen, 25, spent 15 months living in a mud hut in a rural village and has joined forces with friend Lesley Harris to set up the school

She collected the hand prints of more than 2,000 orphans, now turned into `leaves' on four Christmas trees. Donations are invited to add a handprint to the trees on display at the university's School for Environment and Development.
