THEY will never call it dingy again - once windows the size of two tennis courts have been installed at Salford's Central Station.
The station is getting a glass-fronted entrance hall and a new ticket office in a £5m transformation, which also includes new taxi and bus facilities and information screens.
The project is being paid for by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, with a contribution from development agency Manchester Enterprises.
Transport authority chairman Roger Jones, visiting the station to watch the glass being lifted into place, couldn't resist giving it a bit of a polish.
He said: "Salford Central has been hidden away on the border between Manchester and Salford for decades. I'm pleased it is now being brought back into the limelight.
"I'm sure this £5m investment will help to boost the local economy and encourage more people to use public transport."
