A DISABLED pensioner says his Remembrance Day pilgrimage to the Imperial War Museum North was ruined because football fans used all the museum's parking spaces.
Frank Elliott, 78, and his son Keith (pictured), 41, both from Gorton, had to abandon a visit to the Salford museum to view a new exhibition dedicated to people who lost their lives in warfare.
But all 160 spaces in the car park had been filled by fans for a game at Old Trafford.
Mr Elliott said he likes to mark Remembrance Sunday each year out of respect to his two uncles who both died in the First World War.
His son Keith said: "I think these selfish fans should be ashamed of themselves for taking all of the spaces - simply because it is convenient for the ground."
The car park is open to everyone and costs £4 a day with all money going to the museum.
Museum director Jim Forrester said he intends to offer the Elliotts a free lunch at the museum, with free parking.
He said: "If the two gentleman had let staff know of their desire to visit the museum, they would have made every effort to ensure alternative parking."

The fact remains that these people have given up their lives in service of our country and deserve respect.

It's another one of those things that spoils tradition. Take flood-lit cricket as another example, what's all that about?
Question is, why did they decide to visit on a match day?
The museum has rememberance activities ongoing throughout November, at very reasonable entry prices.

I sometimes meet elderly war veterens, and they really are pleased to see that someone is enthusiastic about showing respect and gratitude towards them, but, I feel this emotion they show is releif that someone cares and `remembers' what they went through, because no-one does it anymore. Even if I'm really busy, I will still stop what I'm doing and have a chat, and try and let my thanks shine through to them.
By the way anthony if your or your family arn't blue eyed then your lucky to still be able to type on a keyboard.
