A MAN was taken to hospital after an industrial firework blew up in his face at a wedding party.
The 27-year-old suffered severe burns to his face, hands and arms following the incident in Bolton.
Fire crews were called to Belmont Road, Astley Bridge, just before 10.30pm on Friday after relatives dialled 999.
It is thought the man was at a party to celebrate his brother’s wedding, which was due to be held on Saturday.
Suitcase
It is understood he lit the firework – said to be as big as a suitcase – with a cigarette lighter.
Firefighters applied burns dressings and he was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital by paramedics for treatment.
The fire service has re-issued warnings about the domestic use of commercial fireworks.
They have also urged people to ensure they read instructions on fireworks before setting them off.

Any form of explosives/fireworks should not be sold to the general public,Fireworks should be banned totally and organised firework displays should be the order of the day.its not the size of the fireworks, ive seen two year old children with massive burns to their hands after picking up a sparker while still hot ,fireworks are not worth the damage and pain they cause each year.BAN THEM TOTALLY.
