TWO teenagers were injured at bonfires and firefighters tackled more than 1,700 calls over the weekend.
A 13-year-old from Longsight was taken to hospital after a firework exploded in his face. He was treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary after the incident at 10pm yesterday but later went home. He is due to return to hospital today for specialist treatment.
A 16-year-old from Wythenshawe is in hospital being treated for burns after apparently trying to light a bonfire with petrol yesterday.
Firefighters are braced for another busy night and today called for people to attend organised events rather than try to light their own displays.
THIEVES stole fireworks worth more than £45,000 in a raid on a storage container in Sandbach, Cheshire.

As for these types who want to burn fireworks, it's bonfires that are the main cause of injuries, mostly burns.
I was letting mine off on Saturady night and we had some serious artillery. Most neighbours thanked me for a good display but as usual one or two moaned about the noise and their pets etc.

A few words tell me where you stand on the fireworks issue"we had some serious artillery" What a stupid statement when we have stacks of calls to the fire crews and all the kids/people who suffer year on year with bad burns and also get killed .I really do find your story offensive towards our fire service.BAN FIREWORKS from the hands of the public.

If I want to spend £600 on fireworks then that is up to me. Half the problem is that people's car alarms are too sensitive these days so the neighbours should contact the car manufacturers, not telling me what they are going to do to me.

An arsonist started the fire in which the firemen died. It wasn't a firework. Besides the fire brigade are called out the deal with out of control bonfires, not fireworks. Get real.

Time and time again the louts who can't behave themselves spoil if for those who can. The odd thug sets of a firework and injures himself - ban fireworks, kids binge drink -increase the price of alcohol.
Like many I am sick of the nanny state. We don't lock up those who beat up old people yet try having a bit of fun on bonfire night or try driving your car and you are public enemy number one.
I've had it with this country and shall soon be moving back to Africa.-
