Hoan Dinh was unloading his van when the man, wearing a Scream style mask and a gorilla costume, walked into California Wines on Tonge Moor Road, Bolton.
Mr Dinh noticed the man was carrying an industrial firework, but he dropped it and fled before he could be stopped. The firework, capable of up to 200 `explosions', went off in the shop. It sent out sparking rockets around the shelves. Mr Dinh frantically kicked the firework on to the shop's porch where it burned itself out.
Mr Dinh's 16-month-old son Thomas was asleep upstairs at the time of the attack. But moments later he began vomiting violently, alarming his mother, Nhung Nguyen.
Thomas was taken to hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation and is now recovering at home.
Mr Dinh and his wife were unhurt. Mr Dinh, 46, who moved here from Vietnam 17 years ago, said: "I have had the shop for four years and nothing like this has ever happened before. I was really frightened. It happened so fast I couldn't stop him. Just after he left the firework exploded everywhere. We were very lucky.
"If I hadn't kicked the firework out of the shop it could have burned down with my wife and baby upstairs. We are just glad that Thomas wasn't hurt." Police have now issued CCTV footage of the incident in a bid to trace the man. The firework is believed to have been a Fantasia 218.

We should not ban fireworks though. I have just spent £600 on some for a party that I am having tomorrow night and am looking forward to having louder one's than my friends. A volley of £2k worth of fireworks will please my neighbours as they get a free firework display.

Definately think parents should take more responsibility for their childrens actions, especially with potential 'weapons' such as fireworks.
