Tributes to car crash victim

Dominic Cheshire

THE family of 20-year-old Dominic Cheshire, killed in a car crash in Tameside, have paid tribute to him.

Dominic, of Kelboro Avenue, Audenshaw, was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla which overturned close to the Fletcher's Arms pub on Stockport Road at 4am on Tuesday.

He was taken to Tameside Hospital suffering serious injuries but sadly died.

His parents, Paul and Yolanda and his brother Ryan, issued the following tribute.

"Dominic was a fun, caring young man who was always willing to please.

"He enjoyed wheelchair racing and has raced for his county, and also played basketball for Oldham Owls, taking part in many competitions.

"Dominic had overcome many obstacles in his life and always came through a better person. He will be greatly missed by all who he had met on his short journey through life."

A 21-year-old man from Ashton under Lyne was taken to Stepping Hill hospital after the crash suffering spinal injuries. He remains in a stable condition.

A 15-year-old girl from Ashton under Lyne suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Tameside General Hospital for treatment.

Stockport Road was closed between Denton and Bredbury for about four hours due to the incident but has now been fully reopened.

All at the Oldham Owls wish to express our heart felt sadness at your tragic loss.

Dominic was an itrigal part of the Owls and his loss will leave a hole in all our hearts.

we were lucky enough to share Dominic's childhood. An experience we will never forget and that changed our lives forever. We never had chance to tell him how much he meant to us, i hope he knew. Candy and Amanda (Aldwyn)

Dominic Cheshire was a valued member of the Manchester Kestrels Disabled Sports Club; my thoughts are with Paul, Yolanda and Ryan at this very sad and difficult time. Dominic always livened up the Monday night training sessions and will be sadly missed by all his fellow athletes. Dominic was a credit to his family and an inspiration to all young people.

My thoughts are with the Cheshire family at this time. I knew Dominic through his training at Sportcity, and frequently saw him in Ashton town centre too. I will miss him - his cheeky smile and our chats.

I had two cousins and now I only have one but in his short life dom achieved all that he ever wanted. My thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to my uncle paul, auntie yolanda and my cousin Ryan. Dom you will be missed so much, always thinking of you with all my love. your cousin helen xx

We always enjoyed Dom's company and had lots of laughs with him. He came to Canada on holiday with us 4 years ago and we had a good time. He often called in for tea if he was passing our house.

We will all miss him terribly and our thoughts are with Paul, Yolande and Ryan.

The place you now go is a far better place than here.

You will not be the only great wheelchair racer, as many great names have gone before you, with many more sadly to follow with time, but you will always be known as the one that fought the most.

Keep fighting my friend as you always did as one day I hope to join and check those miles.

Words cannot express the shock and sadness I feel right now.

Such a great athlete, honestly the best athlete I ever came across.

For your life to be taken like this is indescribable.

I cannot imagine ever returning to the track and never seeing you again.

I miss you so much Dominic.

Dominic & i have been friends since the day he was born. i am a month older than him & we both had spina bifida.
Dominic was my closest friend and words can not express how much i will miss him. The only thing makes things easier is that Dom & J.P are together again.

I can honestley say Dom was the kindest, most thoughtfull person ever....THE BEST
