Education chiefs had wanted the secondary schools to accept pupils of both sexes but have dropped the plans following a host of complaints from parents.
Manchester council had originally proposed giving mixed status to all five single-sex schools in the city but abandoned this after a consultation showed support for not changing their status.
Instead there were plans to relocate boys-only Burnage High School to the same site as Levenshulme Girls' School and build a new mixed school in Burnage.
But governors and parents said they felt students worked better separated.
At a meeting of senior councillors it was agreed to retain existing admissions policies. Instead both schools will have new buildings.
Other single sex schools are: North Manchester High for Girls, North Manchester High for Boys and Whalley Range. Tweet

its so stupid, boys and girls go through primary school together and have to work together once they leave school and interact in all walks of life so why keep them apart between the ages of 11 to 16. this is so outdated.
