Agyness Deyn has been shortlisted for the prestigious title at the British Fashion Awards.
If she can fight off competition from rivals Lily Cole and Irina she will join a glittering list of previous winners that includes Kate Moss and fellow Oldhamer Karen Elson.
It would cap a remarkable success story for the 24-year-old Failsworth girl.
After being spotted dishing out mushy peas and haddock behind the counter she was soon hailed as the next Kate Moss.
She has since appeared on the front cover of Vogue magazine, splits her time between New York and London and even has a rock-star boyfriend.
The ceremony will be held in the grand surroundings of Lawrence Hall in Westminster next month. Among nominees for other awards are designers Stella McCartney and Giles Deacon.
Humble
It's certainly a long way to come from humble beginnings.
Born Agnes Hollins to a health specialist mother and engineer father she took up music and drama at sixth form college in Bacup after her parents had moved to Rawtenstall.
She met fashion designer Henry Holland while she worked at The Village Chippy in Stubbins who took her to London. She was then spotted by a model scout and her career took off.
First prize in the model category will go to the finalist who has `contributed most to the international fashion scene in the past year'.
Organisers say the event `recognises the strength of British fashion and the key role it plays within a highly competitive global market'.
The winners will be chosen by a panel comprising of leading press, buyers and industry figures. Tweet

I do hope that she wins and does not get battered (ha ha see what I did) and I see that she met someone called Henry Holland (just like the pies).
So was she born "Agnes" Hollins or "Laura" Hollins? One of the gallery photis says it's Laura. Just wondered.
She was named Laura Michelle Hollins on her birth registration.
Being hailed as the next Kate Moss must worry her parents. Hopefully this wholesome Failsworth lass will avoid silly cretins like Docherty and whole drugs scene which leaches on the model trade. If she was my kid, I'd rather have her battering cod and easing puddings from their protective foil shells.
Sigh.........I miss chips mushy peas pudding and gravy.............would have been wrong for her to dish it up tho with all that make up on.
