CHANNEL M anchor, Andy Crane, went out onto the city streets to gauge reaction to GMP's ranking in the national league table and found most people were behind them.

Joseph Lynch said it was unfair to compare police forces and thought they did a good job.

Chris Smith agreed, saying: "I think they do a wonderful job and I have never had any reason to doubt their competence.''

Jalil Ahmed pointed to the issue of gun crime and said that police here faced a much tougher job than in other cities.

While Alicia Hughes told our sister TV station: "It's just not fair to compare - demographics are different everywhere."

And John Cahill agreed the force did a good job with the resources it had but added it needed more support from government.
