Brady could face Bennett trial

MOORS murderer Ian Brady could be put on trial for killing 12-year-old Keith Bennett in 1964.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has told Keith's mother Winnie Johnson she would examine the possibility of charging Brady with his murder.

Brady, serving life for three other murders, has admitted killing Keith and Pauline Reade, 16, but has never been charged. Keith's body has never been found.

Mrs Johnson wants Brody prosecuted to allay her fears of his early release under the new European Union charter.

Ms Smith promised her Brady would never be freed early, whatever new legislation was in force.

She is to hold talks with Greater Manchester Police over Keith's and Pauline's killings.

Pauline was the first to be killed by Brady and Myra Hindley.

Mrs Johnson spent an hour with the Home Secretary at Whitehall, during which Ms Smith assured her that the search for Keith's body on Saddleworth Moor, near Oldham, would continue. Brady has repeatedly ignored Mrs Johnson's pleas to reveal where he buried Keith after killing him 43 years ago.

Enable

She prays he will tell her before she dies to enable her to give Keith a decent Christian burial.

She said: "I feel a lot happier after what Jacqui promised. I was somewhat forthright with her and used a few swear words to reinforce my case, which probably I shouldn't have uttered. But she was great to me and said I was the most experienced woman and mother she'd ever met."

The grieving mum has always maintained she wants the authorities to keep Brady alive because he is her only hope of finding the body.

He has been force fed for more than nine years after going on hunger strike.

In the 1980s, Brady and Hindley were taken to Saddleworth Moor to see if they could pinpoint where the bodies of their victims lay. Police later found Pauline's body.

Hindley died of a heart attack in 2002.

A Home Office spokesman said: "As it is a private meeting we cannot confirm any details."

"Brady could face Bennett trial"

WHY? Brady is mentally ill - Could it be that a few lawyers want taxpayers money?

I agree with Joey, Ashton under Lyne. Brady left Planet Earth years ago. I doubt very much he'd be brought to trial for the murder of Keith, but I also doubt he'd ever be released because of his mental state. I feel for Winnie and I can't even imagine what she's been through these last 40 odd years, but I don't think Keith's location will ever be revealed or found.

If found guilty he might only get 5 years. Or life, whichever is the shorter.

Why waste millions of taxpayers money on taking brady to court for the murder of keith it will not serve any point to the memory of keith or his mother winnie. All it will do is cost lots of money and make a few legal people richer, Brady is going to spend the rest of his days inside,we all know this.As a person who saw brady/hindley on a daily basis, having lived two doors away from brady and his mum, i know they should have hung for the deaths of those children.

We all know he did it but without a body, successful prosecution would be difficult. All they have is his confession, for what it's worth. He told police (and Smith) at the time he had done many more than he actually had. Myra's information is of no value either, due to the well known antagonism between them. What would be the point? The only thing that time and money should be spent on is poor Winnie's quest to find Keith. If Brady can help to locate the remains then he should do. If not, put him in a cell well equipped for suicide and let him do the decent thing - for once.

dont let him go to trial with the daft setences the judges are handing out nowadays he will be freed because he,s served his time on remand and winnie will end up paying him compensation for the upset of taking him back to court
