THE Jeremy Kyle Show has suffered another blow after a government-funded agency axed its sponsorship.
Learndirect, an education body funded by the taxpayer, had a £500,000-a-year deal to sponsor the ITV1 daytime talk show, which is filmed in Manchester.
But the government says the sponsorship deal has been cancelled following recent controversy surrounding the programme. Earlier this week Manchester District Judge Alan Berg described the programme as a `form of human bear-baiting' as he sentenced a 45-year-old man who had head-butted his love rival in front of the studio audience.
And the M.E.N. revealed that officials at Manchester magistrates' court banned the Jeremy Kyle show from being broadcast on TV screens outside the courtrooms in response to the judge's comments.
Following the row, Tory MP David Davies wrote to John Denham, the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, to protest about public money being spent on sponsoring the show.
Learndirect initially defended the deal, saying more than half of its target group watches the show.
The sponsorship deal was arranged by the Government's Central Office of Information (COI).
An ITV spokesman said: "The COI are an important advertiser with ITV and we work with them on a number of programmes."

Maybe your taxes could be better used in say, the field of education.
Please note, the correct spelling......GOVERNMENT.
