A GRIEVING mother has described how her son's dream of a new life in Spain was snuffed out by a knife-wielding thug.
Sylvia Stansfield held her daughter's hand as she told how she was struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Her son David Brown died alone in pain on the doorstep of his Manchester flat.
David, 24, was stabbed following a night out in Manchester.
His body was discovered on the doorstep of his flat on Chorlton Road, Hulme, at 7.30am on Friday. He had been stabbed in the leg.
He was last seen five hours earlier leaving Cruz 101, a gay nightclub on Canal Street.
Detectives are trawling CCTV to discover his final moments.
They believe he may have been robbed as his wallet was missing.
But police are not ruling out a gay-hate motive.
At an emotional press conference, David's mother appealed for help catching his attacker.
Her son had just joined a gym and was due to start a four-year Spanish language degree at Manchester Metropolitan University yesterday.
Mrs Stansfield, said: "He died on his own and that's more than anybody should have to bear.
"I will never come to terms with it. How afraid he will have been going through all of this. I don't know how I'm going to learn to live with that."
"He was just looking forward to starting his course. He wanted to go and live in Spain. He had been there and had fallen in love with Spain.
"He was completely focused. He was working really hard. And he's not going to get that chance now."
Mrs Stansfield, from Burnley spoke she held the hand of her oldest child, David's sister Michelle, 29, who said: "One of the hardest things is not knowing how he has been killed, how long it took him to get home and how long it took him to die."

He did not deserve to die in this or any way, as he had a bright future.
Altough I am not a religious person, the bible says "A life for a life" and one day I may come face to face with the person(s) who took David's life in such a horrendous way.
I just want them to look into my eyes as I take their life.......this is my most sincere wish now!!!!

When will the truth be told by the GMP? That they no longer have control of our City, even with CCTV. The Chief Constable Promised change and even said he would make arrests himself, when he first took control. Sadly, its now time for him to admit that he cannot do the job and justifiably carry on receiving his high salary, which should be paid partly on good Policing and low crime results.
When Mancunians are leaving in droves because they do not feel safe to walk the streets of this once loved City, where gangs openly drink alcohol and sell drugs unchallenged in and around the statue of Queen Victoria in once beautifully kept Piccadilly Gardens, then he must step down and allow a stronger force to surface. Morale within all the force is at its lowest point in living memory.
The Killing of Freda Seaton a lady aged 78 who was attacked at 12:50pm and now the murder of this fresh faced young man now proves to all that its time to leave for areas that can assure the safety of the people they serve.
