A lorry driver was shot in the cheek with an air rifle.

In the random and unprovoked attack, the 37-year-old man was cleaning his lorry after making a delivery to a when he was hit.

The shot is thought to have come from a wooded area close to Temple Road, Smithills.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment.

Is it my imagination or have the instances of gun related incidents in Greater Manchester actually gone up since Chief Constable Mike Todd announced a massive clamp down??!!

dave, i'm not sure they've actually gone up. a lot more incidents are being reported now though which might make it seem like gun crime is on the increase.

Being stupid with air guns is not new. My friend Andrew got shot in the bottom in 1964.

hmmm my dad shot his brother in the bottom with an air rifle years ago too!
