A LORRY caused rush-hour chaos after overturning on one of the main routes into Manchester.

The accident blocked one lane on Trinity Way at its junction with Quay Street.

The driver had a lucky escape with his cab inches away from smashing into a road sign.

He suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The lorry was carrying a large quantity of sand which spilled out on the pavement.

A clean-up operation was taking place this morning and police were directing traffic at the scene.
