MORE than 45,000 revellers will descend on a country estate today for the Creamfields dance festival.

Police and organisers have promised increased security for the bank holiday weekend all-nighter, starting today on the 1,000-acre Daresbury Estate in Cheshire.

Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada, Kelis and Mark Ronson are headlining the dance marathon, which is due to close at 6am tomorrow.

The increased security follows trouble at last year's event - the first time the festival was moved from its home in Liverpool - with reports of assault, drug-taking and theft.

Dance fans going by car are also being asked to switch off `sat nav' systems as they approach the venue and instead to follow signs to direct them to two huge car parks.

This year's event will feature more police, more security and airport-style archway metal detectors at each entrance.

Police and Police Community Support Officers will patrol streets and villages around the estate to maintain order.

"Creamfields is a big event and police officers will be out in numbers over the weekend," said Insp Paul Carroll, of Cheshire Police.

"As we found last year, these numbers of people coming into the area will present problems and test the traffic infrastructure to its limits.

"A number of problems were identified last year and efforts have been made by ourselves and the event organiser to address these issues. "

Road closures will be in place and drivers are being asked to use Junction 11 of the M56.

Specially-trained officers will also carry out spot checks on the anticipated 7,000 cars at the event for tests which will establish whether someone is under the influence of drugs.
