WIDOW Hazel Clayton finally has the dream kitchen she thought she would never get.

Hazel, 51, was left in despair when the BBC 's DIY SOS programme pulled the plug on an offer to finish the job started by her husband Stephen who died soon after starting the project.

For months she had been left with little more than the kitchen sink but when Peter Lackey, managing director of developers Dandara read of her plight in the M.E.N. he vowed to help and diverted a top team to transform Hazel's kitchen.

They not only fitted new kitchen units but also sorted out the plumbing and the lighting and tiled the walls and floor.

"They had no idea who I was yet they were prepared to help me and I still find it hard to comprehend that generosity," said Hazel from Rochdale.

"They came up with a plan for something far better than anything I could ever have hoped for. They custom-made me a utility area and finished everything right down to the last detail.

"It's been a difficult year but this has turned out to be wonderful. I cannot begin to thank them enough."

Scheme

The scheme was put together by Dandara's senior designer Chris Hacquoil.

He said: "I was shocked as to how Hazel (pictured in the new kitchen) had managed for so long as she quite literally had just a kitchen sink.

"We not only agreed to fit a brand new kitchen and appliances but to completely refurbish the whole room."

Peter Lackey, Dandara's managing director added: "You cannot give a monetary value on putting a smile back on to someone's face who had been through such a tough year."

It means that Hazel is now once again able to invite Stephen's parents round for Sunday lunch, a regular ritual when he was alive.

And Hazel said: "It's wonderful to have such a lovely kitchen to entertain in and I know Stephen would have loved it."
