SUBWAY: Opening two Halal only shops

SANDWICH chain Subway is to open two Halal-only stores in Manchester.

The shops in Cheetham Hill and Levenshulme, expected to open next month, will serve exclusively Halal meat in line with Muslim dietary rules.

Subway already has a successful Halal store in Walthamstow, London, and the company is planning to open seven in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire in the next few months.

The Halal meat will be certified by the Islamic Foundation which ensures that all animals are slaughtered according to strict Muslim methods.

This involves cutting the animal's throat with a sharp knife after praying to Allah.

Completely ignoring your closed-minded comments, i think its obviously more like a concession to profit margins than any sort of consideration to a religious minority. There's a market of people who wont eat non-halal meat so wont eat at Subway...problem solved.

theres already a subway in levenshulme - are they planning to open another one? by the way, i hope muslims are aware that subway is owned by the very devil himself - this is the only explanation for why subway sandwhiches taste so awful.

What about people who don't want to eat halal? What about their commercial influence?

I don't care about what the person does before they kill the animal, I DO care about the animal and its suffering.

I USED to eat at subway, I WON'T anymore, as I WON'T support the actions of any organisation that takes us thousands of steps back when it comes to the welfare of animals.

Halal ritual slaughter is a totally evil practice where the poor creatures suffer immense stress and agony before they die. Let's wait and see if the 'animal rights' brigade have any comments on this - but don't hold your breath because it goes against their PC worldview.

We have laws in britain how we stun animals before killing them this dosnt sound like integration to me.this is changing the host country laws to suit.what happened to give and take? it sounds like we keep giving but people keep taking without giving .very one sided.Segregation not integration.

I'll worry when they all go halal. That's when it will concern me.

I sometimes worry that we will eventually be banning pork and bacon to suit the religious types. That's when I'll be rioting.

Have people got nothing better to moan about. Two out of countless Subways serve halal meat in areas where halal meat may be preferred. Shock horror. Presumably people are up in arms about the kosher restaurants and shops not so very far away from these Subways?

I presume everyone opposed to a halal subway doesn't eat any curries from Indian restaurants or take-aways as the majority of these only serve halal meat.

The Catcher, In the Rye "halal meat in the UK is just an ethical/unethical as normal meat. The standard procedure is to stun the animal and then shoot a bolt through the head. However, with Halal meat you slit the throat - either way the animal is unconcious at the time of death. Either you agree with both or neither.

Also, its not squeezing out our culture as you can still eat there if you wish or not.

Surprising how narrow minded people are in this country.
Halal meat is just not killing the animal in the name of god there is plenty more to it then that. In islam you have to slaughter the animal with a sharp knife. When you slaughter an animal, the blood flow stops and they die instantly hence less pain.
When you a stun an animal, it goes through all that pain and the blood flow stops slowly.
Before you comment please actually find out what halal meat is before making daft comments.

There are 1000's of subway stores. They are opening 2 yes only 2 halal shops and you are crying!!

Also stunning the animal gives some of the animals heart attack which is scientifically proven and it gives them a slow painful death. You guys should be locked up the sick way you stun animals!!
