Where they stand on c-charge

CONGESTION charging in Greater Manchester could pave the way for a national scheme. We asked the major parties what their policies are:

LABOUR said: "We are not pro or anti but what we are sure of is doing nothing is not an option. What we do not need is a endless expansion of road usage."

There will be no national congestion charging if the CONSERVATIVES take power.

A spokesman said: "We believe it should be a local issue."

Despite serious doubts by the LIBERAL DEMOCRATS about the local plans, nationally, a spokesman said: "We support road pricing."

Then why are you trying to force on Greater Manchester, BBC news this morning said you may have to force it on Stockport and Trafford.

"There will be no national congestion charging if the CONSERVATIVES take power."

And the free and fair polls and surveys, have all say no to the congestion charge.

Well we know LD Rochdale is going ahead with a yes vote without a council vote.

Well we know who to vote for come the next elections now don't we?

If you want to pay a lot more to drive - Labour or Lib Dems.

If you think you pay enough already - Conservatives.

The choice is pretty crystal-clear now.

There will be no NATIONAL scheme if the tory's take power - that doesn't mean that they won't continue to pursue local schemes which is where we are now anyway! And anyway, is it just me or could this just be a not so cunning way of them trying to win support before, as successive governments, whatever colour, have done before them, they do a complete u-turn!

Why would anyone with just half a brain allow the people who represent us to line the pockets of the Privately owned not Publicly owned transport operators pockets, think about it if this goes ahead who are the real winners here? The Greater Manchester Transport Executive are a total waste of our money because the bus operators do as they please OK they print timetabes but they a bit like my Gran Dad they have No Teeth.

It doesn't surprise me that the tories are anti-road charging.

They for once have learned from their mistakes. I think they can see this has all the hallmarks of the failed poll tax, which blew up in their faces.

Personally, I normally vote Lib Dem, but where the question of con charging comes up, I will be sorely tempted to vote Tory - purely because they seem to be the only ones who can see what a disaster the whole concept will be.

Yep

Toll Tax = Poll Tax mk2

The tories are anti-toll for one reason, Labour aren't. Don't kid yourselves.

What do you mean don't kid yourselves?

This is EXACTLY the sort of issue people vote on.

Adn don't forget Labour were only anti-Poll tax as it was the Conservatives idea....
