MOTORISTS on the M60 were involved in long delays last night as armed police carried out stop checks near the Trafford Centre and Manchester United's Old Trafford ground.
Police said it was part of a policy of providing public reassurance amid the heightened state of alert following the terror attacks in London and Glasgow.
A spokesman said there had been no incidents or specific threat.

Barring MEN misquoting the police, it looks like the ONLY reason they gave for the disruption is to make it look like they are doing something. No evidence to suggest that suspects were travelling on the M60 at that time.
I'm getting a bit sick of the over the top knee jerk reactions by the authorities. All they do is add to the damage already done.
Get on with collecting the evidence and chasing the suspects to prevent further attacks. Leave public reassurance to the politicians
