GREATER Manchester's chief constable Michael Todd has visited a city mosque, where he and Muslim leaders stressed the need to work together in the battle against extremism.
The top police officer attended the Khizra mosque at the invitation of former Lord Mayor Coun Azfal Khan. Although the visit had been planned for later in the month, the private visit was brought forward, following the trial of Omar Altimimi and the bomb attacks on London and Glasgow.
"These are difficult times," said Coun Khan. "We need to be working together."
In talks with mosque officials, the police chief heard how up to 1000 worshippers pray at the mosque every day. During Ramadan, he heard how the numbers can swell to thousands and worshippers even crowd onto the stairwells.
Important time
Arriving at the Cheetham Hill mosque for Friday prayers, less than an hour after the jailing of Altimimi, Mr Todd said: "This is such an important time.
"We understand that Islam is a peaceful religion and the events in London and Glasgow are more about violent extremism. But I can't explain to a young Muslim that they are misreading the Koran, that has to come from here.
"The police are here to protect and serve. We have to police by consent. We are not an army of occupation."

Todd is the worst thing that has ever happened to GMP. He came from the Met with his photogenic looks and his empty head. He will attend the opening of a fag packet if there is a press photographer there.

Why is it whenever muslims commit attrocities the likes of Todd and his PC politcal friends go scurrying to pacify muslims as though they have somehow been 'wronged'?
Todd needs to take a reality check, because he doesn't appear to be able to identify his proper role.

Is that so Mr Todd ?
How much of the Koran have you read Todd ?
Do you know ANYTHING about the difference in the preachings by Mohammed in Madina and Mecca ?
How much of the Koran have you Todd - very little obviously.
Stick to what you do best Todd - dealing with petty criminals and keep your mouth firmly closed when you don't know what you are talking about.

Mohammed and his followers slaughterd thousands and enslaved many more. Is this a religion of peace Mr Downey ?
No doubt Mr Todd believes what he has been told third-hand, very much as you appear to have.

Abu Hamza? Bin-Ladin?

People read the Qur'an, the Bible, the Torah as much as they read Dickens, Shakespeare or Archer.
I too have studied it and I am sorry you feel the need to throw accusations that I have heard anything "third-hand".
But I am glad to hear you have also studied it. As you say, context is vital. Perhaps you should study it some more and ask God for help in understanding it. Then hopefully you might find some peace yourself.
