AS the bloody images and al-Qaida films found on Altimimi's computer were shown in court, the father-of-three was seen to chuckle.

The clips, which edited together lasted 50 minutes, included shots of corpses being mutilated, people being shot and executed and speeches glorifying 9/11 and 7/7 attacks.

Many of the most gruesome clips were accompanied by hypnotic music complete with lyrics glorifying those who hit out at the `infidels'.

Others said natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina were a divine punishment for America's foreign policy while a number featured Osama bin Laden and those close to him. There was also footage of Dr Ayman Al Zawahiri, thought to be bin Laden's second-in-command.

The jury was prevented from viewing the goriest images for fear they would be so appalled they would be unable to remain dispassionate about evidence.

They were, however, given a verbal description. But the propaganda images did not form part of Altimimi's charges.

They were focused instead on the detailed instructions of how to make bombs, poisonous gases, suicide belts and the formation of Islamic fighters' terror cells.
