ENTERTAINMENT giant Sony has apologised to Manchester Cathedral for using its interior in a violent computer game without permission.
A spokesman for the cathedral revealed its Dean received a letter from the company late Friday afternoon saying it "was not our intention to cause offence".
"If we have done so, we sincerely apologise," it added.
Photo-realistic images of the interior of the cathedral featured in bloody computer game Resistance: Fall of Man.
The letter from Sony reads: "It was not our intention to cause offence by using a representation of Manchester Cathedral in chapter eight of the work.
"If we have done so, we sincerely apologise."
In response the Dean of Manchester Cathedral, The Very Reverend Rogers Govender, said: "We acknowledge the admission by Sony that the building in the game is Manchester Cathedral.
"We thank Sony for the apology they have made.
"However, we do not move from the position that we are against violence and especially the gun violence seen in this portrayal of the Cathedral."
Mr Govender has described using Manchester Cathedral as a backdrop for the blood-thirsty game as "highly irresponsible".
Were Sony in the wrong? Have your say.

The game is set in 1940's Britian. Get over it. There's no hidden racism, no fear over trouble. There are games with shootouts in mosques, such as Battlefield: Modern Combat. So for anyone thinking they're making apoint by mentioning the lack of mosques in the game, you can be quiet, you're just proving that people who slam games tend to be those who havn't played them. You are no better than those who claim a film to be bad without watching it.
