ENGLAND cricket captain Michael Vaughan looks like he has been hit for six on a night out in Manchester - just days after he criticised team-mate Andrew `Freddie' Flintoff for his drunken antics.
The Worsley-born batsman was spotted slumped on a wall as he celebrated England's series-winning victory against the West Indies at Old Trafford.
Vaughan enjoyed a well- deserved night out with friends at the Living Room on Deansgate following the win, which saw him become the most successful English cricket captain of all time.
But his wobbly display on the streets outside raised eyebrows as it came shortly after his scathing criticism of Flintoff, who had to be rescued from a pedalo at 4am during England's disastrous World Cup campaign earlier this year in the Caribbean.
The skipper - who is due to be back in the practice nets with England tomorrow - referred to the `Fredalo' incident in an interview and said it had affected team morale. The comments led to him being booed by fans at Old Trafford and he later backtracked and apologised.
Vaughan spent two hours at the Living Room on Monday evening after the match at Old Trafford and was spotted walking out alone before heading for the Hilton Hotel.
There the 32-year-old appeared to walk into a glass door, before making his way up to the Cloud 23 sky bar, where he spent an hour celebrating. On his way out he sat down on a wall with his head in his hands.
After five minutes the Yorkshire player was approached by a hotel doorman, who called him a taxi.
Vaughan was taken to the Lowry Hotel, where he was staying.
There, a bellboy helped him up to the front door and into a lift, finally ending the day's play at around 10.45pm.
One observer said: "A few fans saw him sitting on the wall outside Cloud 23 and did a double take.
"When you think about what he said about Freddie Flintoff, it doesn't seem to be setting the best example."
Flintoff was sacked as vice-captain, fined and banned for one match after the pedalo incident - which occurred just 30 hours before England were due to play a crucial match in the World Cup.
In contrast the current Test series against the West Indies is already won.
However, Vaughan does still have to lead his team out for the final match starting at Durham on Friday.
A spokesman for Vaughan did not return calls to the M.E.N. yesterday.
