A MAN being chased by police died after he jumped over a wall and fell onto a railway line.

The suspect was pursued by two officers following reports of a group of men throwing objects at a shop window in Ormskirk.

It is believed he fell down steep banking as he tried to escape.

Officers said that when they looked over the wall they saw the body of the man on the track.

A police spokesman said the man, who has not yet been identified, was not hit by a train.
