THE chances of grinding to a halt at Greater Manchester traffic blackspots is higher than in London, a new survey has revealed.
Drivers around junction 25 of the M6 near Wigan have almost a 70 per cent chance of hitting a jam in the evening rush hour.
It beats London's worst jams at the Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach on the A12.
But the delays are nowhere near as bad as the country's worst congestion spots - on the M8 at Glasgow and the M6 at Birmingham, which both have an 85 per cent chance of a hold-up.
Another of Greater Manchester's worst bottlenecks is at Gatley, where both junction 1 of the M56 and junction 3 of the M60 are in the top five, with a 63 per cent and 59 per cent chance of a traffic jam.
The Denton interchange of the M67 and the M60 is another blackspot, as is junction 2 of the M56 at Sharston.
The list has been compiled by traffic information service Keepmoving after a year-long survey to find Britain's most congested commuter routes around major cities.
It monitored traffic speed between 5pm and 6pm in each city and then drew up a hit-list of the most congested stretches of road.
Alex Petrie, product director of Keepmoving said: "Our research highlights the exasperation felt by the long-suffering British commuter.
"Commuter congestion in London and the south east is still a major problem, but increasingly, roads in the Midlands, north west and Scotland feature among the worst in Britain."
He added: "The debate over road pricing becomes even more pressing if you consider the amount of time and money British drivers waste in traffic."
Keepmoving offers a personal traffic monitoring service, telling subscribers on their mobiles of delays on their chosen route before they set off.

Yes, we know, but the authorities are only doing their best to make it worse, so they can take your money. There are no such problems when the kids are off school for example, but no one wants to look into that.

So why do we need a 3billion road pricing scheme which is mainly for urban roads?
Simple answer, we do not.

Try spending some of the £50 BILLION + robbed annually from the motorist on the roads instead of using it to prop up everthing else!!

Plus, have you never heard of Hydrogen or electrically-powered cars?
We will still be driving private cars for quite a while yet so don't go getting your hopes up too much....

They might work when the M60 is not 40mph but for now it's chaos in rush hour !!!!!
