Bolton teacher to stand for Manchester Central seat as Respect party candidate

A geography teacher has become the second person to declare himself as a candidate in a by-election to choose Manchester’s next MP. Clive Searle, a teacher at Turton High School, in Bolton, will stand for the Respect party in Manchester Central,taking on Labour’s Lucy Powell.

Salford votes 'Yes' for directly elected mayor in referendum
Salford has voted in favour of a directly elected mayor. In a referendum on Thursday, there were 17,344 'Yes' votes cast with 13,653 votes against the proposal, meaning the turnout for the poll was just 18.1 per cent.
